Dear School Parent / Guardian
The Rising Stars will continue this school year as a collaboration between students from St. Ann's and O.L.P.H..
GOALS
1. To bring together students from St. Ann's and O.L.P.H. for a positive musical collaboration.
2. To rehearse and perform a variety of music designed for an upper elementary choir.
3. To assist the music ministry of the Church and the school.
4. To perform for various school and community events as may occur throughout the school year.
ME#MBERSHIP IN THE CHOIR
Any student from Grades 4 - 7 (including Grade 7's at St. Ann's) is welcomed to participate in the Rising Stars. Students are not required to pass an audition to be in the choir. There is NO audition. Students may be asked to sing "O Canada" as part of a group of students to determine their vocal range and sense of pitch.
REHEARSALS (Sept. to April)
St. Ann's students: Tuesdays at 7:40 a.m. in the music room.
O.L.P.H. students: Thursdays at 7:45 a.m. in the music room
There may be one or two extra rehearsals for which at least 2 weeks advance notice will be given.
PERFORMANCES
All students sing for any and all performances unless otherwise specified.
Contact Mr. Peterson at 828-0598 or email rjpetersen@shaw.ca
Other performances T.B.A. at least 3 weeks ahead of time.
UNIFORM
For boys and girls: a Rising Stars T-shirt ($16.00), black straight-legged jeans, and black dress shoes.
The Rising Stars T-shirt costs $16.00. Students who are new to the choir need to buy a T-shirt. Students who already have a Rising Stars T-shirt do not need to buy a new shirt. Mr. Petersen orders the T-shirts in early October.
EXPECTATIONS
1. Punctuality: Students are expected to arrive for any choir function on time. To ensure consistently productive rehearsals, and respecting those students who are punctual, latecomers are not admitted to rehearsals once rehearsals have started (except in the case of extenuating circumstances). Students are expected to arrive for rehearsals at least five minutes ahead of time to get ready.
2. Attendance: Students are expected to attend rehearsals faithfully. Any unexplained absence will jeopardize membership in the choir. Absences are excused if resulting from sickness or extenuating circumstances. Students must bring a note from their parents or guardian for any absence to be excused.
3. Rehearsal Conduct: Rehearsal time is precious, therefore students are expected to focus on the music and to attend to directions during rehearsals. If after given notice a student persists in disruptive behaviour during rehearsals, he or she will be asked to leave.
4. Uniform: The Choir's uniform should be clean and presentatable for any performance. The choit T-0shirt must be tucked into black straight-legged jeans (boys and girls). Dress shoes are to be worn for performances - no running shoes please. No earings, necklaces or make-up are to be worn for any performance (stud earrings are acceptable; crucifix necklaces can be worn inside the T-shirt).
5. Music: Music is supplied by the school, and it is difficult and costly to replace. Students must assume the responsibility of looking after music. In some cases students will share a music binder.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call Mr. Petersen at 828-0598.
